Enhanced Response Area (ERA) – changes for Cambridgeshire from 1st Nov 2021

17th November 2021

What is new where you live?

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough have become an ‘Enhanced Response Area’ (ERA).  This is because we have a high number of COVID-19 cases in both areas, including in our schools, nurseries and colleges. We want to keep our schools open, and we want to keep our communities safe.  We need to bring down the spread of Covid to keep schools open and to protect the NHS.

Why are these changes happening?

Covid spread is happening too quickly again and the take up of vaccinations remains lower than hoped for.  The planned changes aim to bring down infection rates.  The infection rates are currently higher in most areas than they were during the January peak.  Becoming an Enhanced Resource Area means we will be able to ask for more money from Government and take new steps to tackle the pandemic here.

When did this change happen?

This change to an Enhanced Resource Area started on Monday November 1 and lasts for at least five weeks.
